Adventure Racing is the latest sport to emerge from the US and NZ. It is a
multi-discipline sport that will challenge your fitness, map reading and teamwork
in the outdoors. Dates for race: 17-18th July 2004
Ever heard of the Ecochallenge or the Southern Traverse. Ever fancied having ago
but thought you didn’t have the necessary time, money or skills.
Now’s your chance, Maximum Adventure are bringing the race to you.
Enter the Kathmandu race and experience part of the action. Paddle, run and bike
you way around a beautiful State Forest two hours North of Brisbane. See it like
you have never seen it before.
Enter as part of a team (2, 3 or 4). As a team you will need to work together to
stratergise the best route to checkpoints, in order to maximize points and return
to base in the allocated time frame.
This event is a fixed time event, so you can do as little or as much as you want
in the available time. You determine the intensity – complete to win or have a
bit of fun!
What does it involve?
Saturday
AM Three hours rogaine (foot orienteering)
PM Four hours cyclegaine (bike orienteering)
Evening 90 minutes night navigation
Sunday
AM MTB/kayak/trek. Collect all of the checkpoints (in any order) as
fast as possible across the three disciplines. Quickest time is awarded 1000pts.
Points lost for every minute after the fastest time.

If you are new to adventure racing, a top athlete or a complete novice, then this
is a great event for you.
What do I need to bring?
All specialist equipment will be provided for you eg. canoe, paddle and life
jacket. You will receive a list of items you will need to bring to the event once
you have entered. As a guide you will need a mountain bike, bike helmet, repair
kit, a waterproof mapcase & small first aid kit per team, and something to carry
water in. (camel-back or small back pack with water bottles, 2 liters per
person).
Who can enter?
Anyone! The aim is to collect as many check points in the time available. It is
unlikely that anyone will be able to collect all the check points in the time
limit.
Teams of 2, 3 or 4 may enter the race. There are three categories:
Mixed
All Male
All Female
What skills do I need?
Some basic navigation skills: Know how to use a compass
Mountain Biking: You should have ridden on road and off road on fire trials.
Canoe: Have paddled a canoe before. Be able to swim 100 meters.
Trail running: Have run/walked on trails
