The Eleanor Schonell Bridge (a.k.a. the Green Bridge) officially opens this Sunday, 17 December. The club is putting on displays. Members are invited (and needed) to participate.
UQ sport and the Brisbane city council are holding a family fun day between 10AM and 1PM to celebrate (the club is participating). Many activities are planned, including tours, contributions from various community groups, sausage sizzles, roving entertainment, UQ sports club activities, and more. The canoe club is one of the few groups holding on-the-water activities. This is a chance for some great exposure for the club. We’d love as many members as possible to come and participate.
Rough outline
10 AM – Three or four 1.0 km flatwater sprint races (handicapped) from the club jetty to the Bridge pylon. The more participants, the better!
12 PM – Sea kayaking. Team races possibly involving rescuing, towing and getting wet. Bring a towel & fresh clothes just in case (remember there are warm showers in the shed complex).
1 PM – More flatwater races / fun races.
Come early as it will take time to set up and get everyone organised, on the water, and ready for the starts. We need you between 9 AM – 2PM. Please join us if you are available – even if it’s only for an hour or two.
For more information about the family day have a look at the UQ sport Flyer and activity map showing the zones for planned activities (the river is zone 10).
