G1: Bongaree to Red Beach (Bribie Island)

A day event following the shoreline from inside the Bribie Passage to around on the south eastern tip of Bribie. There will be training opportunities as the trip is being held concurrently with a QSKC trip, being led by Tony Hirst, who is an AC Sea Instructor. He will be assisting in training our Club during this event.

Bongaree to Red Beach (Bribie)

This trip is a two way trip and although only rated at Grade 1 we will still get in some disturbed water on the southern side of Bribie as it is exposed to the Bay fetch. Small surf could be possible so this will give us a chance to practise our low bracing skills. Very safe environment though.

The trip will be current with the Queensland Sea Kayak Club Trip (QSKC) and we will also have lunch with another trip (Grade 2) that is being run by that Club as well so it will be a good opportunity to mingle with other paddlers of advanced capability.

The Trip leader for the QSKC is Tony Hirst who is already doing training for our Grade 1 Trip Leaders. He has agreed to assist with training on our trip as well so this is an excellent opportunity to receive some high level training from an accredited AC Sea Instructor.

We will have morning tea at Red Beach. Bring a Cag (rain jacket) in case it gets cold when we stop for lunch. Expect to perhaps get wet (rescues) but if you don’t want to you done have to – optional.

Depending on numbers that register and the number of vehicles with roof racks we may not require to take the Club trailer but we will decide this closer to the date.
In any event we will need to leave the Club shed by 6.30am to ensure that we are ready to paddle on the water at Bribie by 8.30am. Due to this early start it may be desirable to meet on Friday night and load the kayaks. We will advise later.

Additional Comments/Instructions Advise trip leader of any medical conditions beforehand.
Make participants aware of the potential of encountering marine stingers/ ‘jelly fish’.
Need to stay in a group.

Paddlers should have an appropriate level of fitness, although this is not an arduous trip. This part of the Bay is exposed to winds/ wave fetch over the southern and middle part of the Bay and therefore will be at the maximum wave heights commensurate with the wind strength.
Individuals must self-assess their, and their equipment’s, ability to participate in this level club event and should consult the trip leader if any aspect of their suitability requires clarification.

There maybe very small surf – ideal for an introduction to it.
